Official Description:

College student Rose Maraczek loves movies. Not just any movies, but sweeping period dramas that take her far away from who she is. Her obsession started in high school when a box of movies appeared on her doorstep and she discovered the relief they could give her from her debilitating OCD. What Rose hates are spoilers—especially those that ruin the escape she seeks.

Tristan Moore, Rose's former crush and her brother's best friend, is the bane of her existence. Always at their house, everything he does gets under Rose's skin, the worst of which is his consistent dropping of movie spoilers. Fed up, Rose sets out to find a new apartment, but it's while trying to distance herself from Tristan that he reveals one final spoiler—one that makes Rose realize it was Tristan who left all those movies for her years ago.

Now it's Rose's turn for revenge as she forms a movie-spoiler plan of her own:

Destroy Tristan Moore.

The Spoiler' by L.E. Todds has its strengths and weaknesses. The author's writing style is engaging, but the pacing is a bit of an issue. The constant back-and-forth between Rose and Tristan, especially with the movie spoilers, gets repetitive and slows down the plot.

That said, the chemistry between Rose and Tristan is undeniable. The tension between them is well-written and keeps you invested in their relationship.

Character-wise, Todds does a good job. Rose feels realistic with her mix of insecurity and strength. Tristan is more than just a love interest - he's got depth, and his vulnerabilities and motivations are well-explored. It's refreshing to see characters with some complexity in a romance novel.

I really appreciated that the book sheds light on OCD, a topic often overlooked in literature.  While the friends-to-lovers and brother's best friend tropes are well-executed and I enjoyed the romance, the slow burn felt overly prolonged. The friends-to-lovers and brother's best friend tropes are well-executed, but the slow burn romance feels a bit too drawn out. It's like the author was trying to build tension, but overshot the mark a bit.

The reveal about Tristan being the one who left those movies for Rose years ago is a nice touch. It's these kind of details that elevate the story beyond a typical romance.

Overall, 'The Spoiler' has its moments. The romance is sweet, the characters are well-developed, and it touches on some important issues. However, the pacing could use some work, and the plot doesn't have many surprises. If you enjoy character-driven stories and don't mind a slower pace, it's worth a read. Just don't expect a fast-paced page-turner.
